During the first few weeks of school while kids were getting to know each other we created a class book where each child wrote one page about themselves. We added a digital picture, a page border and clipart.
Students select a poem to create a visual in Kid Pix and export it to the desktop. They then type the poem using correct poem formatting (possibly in Powerpoint), add the picture from Kid Pix to the slide and export it as a JPEG to the Shared Drive. Record students' voices reading the poem and compile into a class project.
Sample poems can be found from famous poets like Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky or Ken Nesbitt.

Emotions Powerpoint
Students take pictures of themselves in groups expressing five emotions (happy, sad, mad, afraid, confused) They upload to iPhoto and get their first lesson in editing photos. They crop, remove red eye, and add effects. They insert into Powerpoint slides. Next they use the computers thesaurus to find synonyms for the words. Last, they write a sentence about a time that they felt that feeling in their own lives. We add clipart to the cover and print two slides per page to create a book to take home. UBD-Emotions

State Postcard
Students each are assigned a different state and research in library. They use Microsoft Word to design and write a postcard from that state. They use Word Art, insert images from Google, insert text boxes, learn proper envelope addressing and more. When they print we fold them in half so it gives the postcard appearance. Hang with a string on bulletin board so both sides can be seen.
Students will complete a six slide power point presentation about themselves. Students will also apply various formatting and editing skills. I have attached the template the students will use to complete their projects. allaboutmetemplate.ppt
